The smell of fresh toner just spreads through my room and a big relief fills my heart. I just finished the first draft of the treatment for my current screenplay.
The treatment is fifty pages long (with Courier pt. 12 and double line space, i usually prefer 1,5 line space, so that would be about 40 pages), and since the movie will heavily depend on dialogue my prediction for the final screenplay is that it will be about 80 - 90 pages.
All the time i wrote about the screenplay i´m working on i didn´t mention what it is about. I am currently writing an Austrian Comedy, probably not the most popular genre these days, but i had the idea of this really funny movie and in my opinion it works best with an Austrian flavour.
To be honest if you would have told me that i´d write a comedy a year ago i would have denied it, but it´s not some kind of a stupid comedy, it should also carry a statement. I like to play with characters that may appear stereotype on the first glance, but if you get to know them better they are very unique, deep and unpredictable.
I don´t want to spoil any story yet, over the next few days i´ll finish the screenplay and start the first rewrite after i got some feedback.
I really like the approach to finish the treatment without any dialogue first, so now the really fun part begins, let the characters speak. After spending so much time with them during the structural and treatment phase i almost can hear them talk to me.
Some time ago i wrote an article about my approach to write the first draft of a screenplay (it can be found here), i pretty much worked that way. I made some little tweaks, so probably i´ll rewrite the article in the near future, but by and large this is may way of writing.
Oh, and what really helped me to keep up this exhausting day (i think i wrote for 10 hours or so) was listening to Lisa Gerrard, such calm and inspiring music really helps me staying focused.
